Meard Streer, Soho watercolour

A watercolour painting of Soho’s Meard Street on a wet day. The street is a fine example of Georgian architecture and once home to the eccentric Sebastian Horsley, who’s front door had the sign, ‘This is not a brothel. There are no prostitutes at this address’.

This painting is a preliminary study by the artist prior to undertaking a larger painting in oils on canvas. The study allows the artist to form an idea of the composition of the future painting, and consider the tones and colours required.

Watercolour on cold press paper - 14” × 10”

The painting is signed on the front and stamped with the artist’s stamp on the rear.  Please note the painting is sold unframed, but comes with a cardboard mount measuring 15.5” x 12”. The painting has various splashes and scuffs indicative of a working painting.

Painted July 2026.
