Meard Street, Soho

Contemporary urban landscape painting of Soho’s Meard Street, W1. 

Meard Street was developed by John Meard, whom the street is named after as far back as 1720 and the buildings he designed and built are still in existence today!

But, the history of the street that captures the artist’s imagination is from the post-war period, when the street was home to The Gargoyle Club and The Macabre Coffee Bar. And, in later years, Gossips Nightclub and home to Sebastian Horsley at number 7, with the famous sign on the door, “This is not a brothel. There are no prostitutes at this address”. As well as one of Rick Buckley's, Seven Noses Of Soho sculptures.

The painting is signed on the front and provided with a certificate of authenticity as the original piece of art.
